Cloths of Heaven

I finally completed a commission for my friend, Gabriele Wolf. She gave me a poem by William Butler Yeats entitled 'Cloths of Heaven' and asked me to create a piece from my own vision and interpretation of the poem. She gave me no deadline or even art direction and this is what I came up with. I thank her for her patience and continued support with my lofty dreams of being an artist.

CLOTHS OF HEAVEN

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Prismacolor

I started a sketchbook about a month ago. These are two of my favorites from it. I started working with Prismacolor pencils and I like how it gives the translucent effect. There's really no meaning to these pieces. I'm just experimenting with contrast, design, placement, composition, etc.

drawings in my sketchbook

Since February 17th of this year, I've been diligently drawing in my sketchbook and have completed 18 intricate drawings. Each one takes about 12 hours to complete. It started out during jury duty. I figured I would be there all day and just started drawing. Now, the sketchbook is 4 drawings away from being filled up. You can see my process with the third image. There are no sketches involved. Just random placements of strange floating objects.
